How to Get Motivated to Do Well at School

Aug 12, 2009 09:11 PM

Aren't getting the grades you'd like in school? Need some motivation? Well, this article is for you.

Get grounded

No, this doesn't mean do something horrible and get grounded for life. This means keeping both feet on the ground, and knowing when to say no. If your friends ask to hang out when you have homework to do, stay home and do the work. It's better that way.

Give yourself rewards

When you've finished your homework, or have done well on a test, give yourself a pat on the back. You can stop for ice cream, eat a cookie, or give yourself extra television time. Just don't let your effort go unappreciated.

Think about your future

It may be a scary topic, but if nothing else will get you motivated, this will work. Bad habits in middle school turn into bad habits in high school, and bad habits in high school turn into bad habits in college. And bad habits are not a good thing to have in college, if you can even get in one with them.

Keep track of your grades

Some people think they are doing good in school but it turns out to be pretty bad. Ask your teacher if she can email your grade weekly or bi-weekly. This will ensure whether you should improve your work habits.

Learn to Cooperate with your teacher

Lets be honest, teacher's can be a pain. If your and your teachers(s) don't have a good relationship, try to improve it. Learn what she likes in a student and what makes her happy. Also participate in class. Answer and ask questions so that you know everything you need to know.

Inform your parents about school

Your parents are like your lawyers- they stand by you when you are wrong or right. I f somethings bothering you at school, tell them. Also tell them what you get on tests, report cards, and school news(activities, field trips, etc.).

Tips

  • Study hard and pay close attention in order to get good grades and rewards.
  • Your education can make or break your future. Take advantage of the benefits of school and get prepared everyday for what's coming at you.
  • Always be prepared. Teachers get ticked off when you always have to ask them for a pencil.
  • Be social. It's OK to hang out with people. In fact school is where you'd have more friends. Friends can also motivate you to do well and help you stay on track.
