How to Memorize Prince2

Aug 14, 2009 10:16 PM

PRINCE2 is a project management methodology that it is useful to memorize to make it easier to apply. This article is to provide a selection of ways to help achieve what at first maybe a daunting task, given the size of the PRINCE2 manual.

Create a memory palace consisting of one room for each subprocess. Ideally, group the rooms of the same process in the same area or wing of the palace.

Insert images to describe what takes place in each subprocess in each room.

Use icons for various objects that occur within the processes. A brief case is a good icon for the business case, more so when wielded by a man in an executive suit and a bowler hat representing the Executive.

Run through the story of a project from its conception to its closure. At each step of the story visualize what is happening in each subprocess using the images and icons you have created.#

Tips

  • Use a different colour for each group of rooms that go into one process. Startup, SU, could be white because it is a sugar cube. Usefully, a sugar cube is white and also has six sides, which is the number of subproceeses in the process. Other colours could be indigo and purple for IP, Sky Blue for stage boundaries, black for CS as CS is short for clear screen which results in a black screen, planning takes place on a sunny beach (PLage), and so on.
  • Icons can include a white shirted man for the project manager holding a daily log; a set of old style kitchen scales to represent risk; a rolled up newspaper for an issue; the project is a cruise liner ship, called the QE as it has quality expectations and runs on AC electricity for acceptance criteria; quality is simply a diamond ring; a plan is a desktop calendar and so on.*
