How to Value of Discipline

Jan 4, 2011 10:39 AM

Discipline means obedience to an authority or to strict observance of certain rules and regulation.A disciple is expected to obey his teacher or master. So the word "discipline" is derived from "disciple".If  there is no discipline in  society everybody will suffer.Discipline implies subjection or subordination of one will to some external authority or to one own self imposed principle.Freedom should not be confused with discipline.Even freedom cannot be enjoy without discipline.Man is social being. If each man assets his sweet will there can be no social life.It is necessary to subordinate the individual will,to some extent ,to the general will of society. This is a necessary compromise without which society cannot exist. This compromise is called  discipline. There is discipline of the body as well as of mind.A discipline body as of soldiers, obeys the order like machine.A discipline mind is not carried away by fits of anger or passions. This discipline cannot be taught to us by others. We have to learn it ourselves.  Discipline is a must for the future greatness of a child. This is why a child  from the beginning is taught to obey his parents and teachers ,to raise early and go to bed punctually,to learn his lesson and to keep his body clean. There are parents who spoil children by allowing them to do whatever they like in the name of affection. So a child who is undisciplined will be a bundle of strange ideas and actions. In civil life and administration discipline is of great importance.Only a small number of policeman control big crowds, because of discipline. So discipline is essential for government.
